Applications are invited from Cambridge PIs for interdisciplinary midi+PhD project proposals for our current cohort of MRes+PhD students.
The deadline for project proposal submissions is Tuesday, 23rd Feb 2021, using the form available here.
The midi project is 13 weeks long and will run from early May – end July 2021. During the Midi students will require close supervision from a ‘daily supervisor’ who can be a PDRA in your group or a senior PhD student. The PhD projects (beginning Sep/Oct 2021) may or may not be directly connected to the Midi project, but will benefit from building on skills and experience gained during the Midi project. All NanoDTC projects require an academic co-supervisor from another department/discipline in addition to the main PI. Please contact Dr Karishma Jain if you need assistance finding suitable co-PIs for your project.
Projects can also have an additional industry supervisor. If a student decides to continue to the PhD stage on a project with an industry supervisor, a formal research contract will have to be put in place along with co-funding from the industry partner.
The project proposals will be assessed by the NanoDTC External Advisory Board in March before release for students’ consideration. The External Advisory Board assessment criteria include: fit to the NanoDTC research themes/application areas (see https://www.nanodtc.cam.ac.uk/research/), appropriate scope and ambition and interdisciplinarity.
We particularly encourage projects from PIs who have not had a NanoDTC student as primary supervisor in recent years.
