Nu Quantum, founded and led by NanoDTC alumnus Dr Carmen Palacios Berraquero, has announced a major Series A funding round that marks an exciting milestone for the company and the wider Cambridge quantum community. The new investment will support Nu Quantum as it develops its approach to scalable quantum computing based on optical networking and distributed architectures. Since its early days as a research spin out, the company has focused on a central challenge in quantum technology: linking quantum processors in a way that allows systems to scale reliably.

Carmen is joined by two further NanoDTC alumnae, Dr Lauren McKenzie-Sell and Dr Simone Eizagirre Barker, both contributing to the scientific and commercial foundations of the company. The team’s work on photonic interfaces and its Entanglement Fabric platform aims to provide a route toward larger, networked quantum machines. The Series A raise represents one of the most substantial investments in a UK quantum hardware company to date and will enable Nu Quantum to expand its technical team, build out product development and strengthen collaborations across industry and research.

For us at the NanoDTC, it is a pleasure to see three of our alumnae playing key roles in a company that has grown from a small Cambridge idea into an internationally recognised effort advancing the frontier of quantum technology.

Congratulations to Carmen and the whole Nu Quantum team. We look forward to following the next steps in their journey!
