Inspire & Outreach
Be inspired
Our firm belief is that, through wider participation and the inclusion of diverse perspectives and communities more representative of society at large, we increase our chances of achieving the scientific and technological breakthroughs needed to address the most important challenges facing humanity. The programmes below are exemplars of this vision.
NanoFuture Scholars
The NanoFutures Scholars was a research programme aimed at undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in nanoscience research. In particular, it allowed talented students from diverse communities, who may not yet have considered a career in research because of their particular circumstances, to secure high-quality research experience during an 8-week summer research internship at the NanoDTC.
Nano Ambassadors
The Nano Ambassadors programme was a flagship outreach initiative of the NanoDTC, also dedicated to widening participation in nanoscience. Our NanoDTC students joined forces with nanoscience research students from other universities to deliver talks and workshops to deliver talks and workshops at schools and universities across the UK (including online). Students also received training public speaking, science communication, and research engagement, helping to shape them into the next generation of ambassadors for the field.
Beyond the lab
From Darwin’s original sketchbooks to the advanced renderings found in today’s research journals, drawing and diagrams are a crucial part of doing and communicating science. Find out how NanoDTC students collaborate with artists and creative domain experts to explore visual methods for communicating their research.
