Core teaching
Ryo Mizuta is a Senior Teaching Associate in Nanoscience, where he teaches for and oversees the 1st year curriculum around applied training for experimental Nanoscience research with the NanoDTC. He is also an affiliated lecturer for the MPhil in Nanoscience and Enterprise (Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy), and a Bye-Fellow and Director of Studies at Lucy Cavendish College (Part II & III Natural Sciences, Physics).

Teaching interests
Beyond his core teaching specialism in Nanoscience, his interests revolve around 3D visualisation strategies for scientific communication (particularly the Physical Sciences). He currently delivers lectures and training workshops in fundamental visual design strategies for researchers, both within the NanoDTC & Dept. of Physics, and wider University ecosystem. Outside of his academic role, Ryo is also a scientific illustrator (Ryo Mizuta Graphics) specialising in 3D visualisations using Blender for both academia and industry. His work ranges from publication figures and cover illustrations for academic clients, to technical animations, concept illustrations and 3D interactive visualisations for startups and companies. Meanwhile, his YouTube Channel focuses on delivering specific tutorials for Blender-based illustrations for the Physical Sciences.  He also creates interactive 3D visualisation tools based on Blender for educational and illustrational purposes, which he makes freely available online (Gumroad link).

Research background (ResearchGate)
Prior to his current position, Ryo completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Stephan Hofmann on in-operando environmental scanning electron microscopy. He also held two postdoctoral research associate positions in the Department of Engineering, first in the Bioelectronics Lab (Prof. George Malliaras) as a NanoDTC Translational Prize Fellow, subsequently in the Nanomanufacturing group (Prof. Michael de Volder) at the Institute for Manufacturing.
