Charles Seymour
PhD Student, c2023
Prior to joining the NanoDTC, Charlie graduated with an MSci in Chemistry from the University of Birmingham in 2023. His Master’s project focused on the development of a metallopeptide-based contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging. In the third year of his undergrad, he completed an internship at the University of Cambridge Institute of Manufacturing, as a member of the inaugural cohort of the NanoDTC’s NanoFutures Scholars programme.
Charlie’s PhD aims to use a microfluidics-based approach to investigate the cellular machinery underpinning virus-mediated cell-to-cell fusion, with a specific focus on the fusogenic reoviruses of the family Sedoreoviridae.
PhD Supervisors: Professor Tuomas Knowles (Chemistry) & Dr Jonathon Nixon-Abell (CIMR)
Research topic: Exploring the molecular mechanisms of virus-induced cell-to-cell fusion.
