For my PhD I studied novel energy materials for solar cells and light sources, focusing on organic systems with unpaired electrons. Through experiments with ultrashort laser light pulses, the mechanism of their operation can be studied step-by-step. These results feed back into the rational design of the molecules and spintronic devices. Additionally, I constructed a theoretical description of these systems with spin quantum mechanics.
