I study novel energy materials for solar cells and light sources, focusing on organic systems with unpaired electrons. Through experiments with ultrashort laser light pulses, the mechanism of their operation can be studied step-by-step. These results feed back into the rational design of the molecules and spintronic devices. Additionally, I construct a theoretical description of these systems with spin quantum mechanics. PhD Supervisors: Prof. Sir Richard Friend– Department of Physics and Prof. Stephan Hofmann– Department of Engineering
